Habsburg and Bourbon Spain
Murcia
Today: Spain
- Years
- 1492–1833
- Role
- Capital of the Kingdom of Murcia, episcopal see
Murcia received the title «Muy noble y muy leal» after helping to put down the Morisco revolt of the Alpujarras under Felipe II, and the boom in its silk spared it the crisis of the 16th century. In 1705 Bishop Belluga organised its defence in the War of the Spanish Succession; the 18th century was the age of Baroque churches and palaces and of the sculptor Salzillo.
