The Benedictine convent that Alfonso II dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and that took the name of San Pelayo when it received the martyr's relics in 994. What stands today is early modern: the church was rebuilt in 1590, the towers date from 1650, the whole was redone at the end of the 17th century, and the Vicaría, with its Baroque façade, was begun in 1703. From the Calle del Águila one reaches the seat of the Academia de la Lengua Asturiana.
